Maharashtra citizen identity
Maha ID registration through MahaSarathi
Prepare for registration online or with assistance at a participating SETU / Maha e-Seva centre.
Maha ID (MahaID) is Maharashtra's permanent citizen identifier. MahaSarathi creates the citizen profile; MahaONE provides the related single sign-on for participating government services.
Your eSetu account and its citizen reference are separate. Government registration and authentication take place on the official portal.
What to keep ready
- Aadhaar: your card or number, or a Virtual ID where the official registration screen offers that option.
- Linked mobile: access to the mobile linked to Aadhaar for OTP-based e-KYC.
- Ration card: only if choosing the ration-card registration route. Follow that route's verification and e-KYC requirements.
- Basic details: check your name, date of birth and contact details. The MahaDBT 2.0 manual also lists a working email address.
This is a preparation list. Follow the current official screen for required fields; you do not need to upload identity documents to read this guide.
Registration at a SETU / Maha e-Seva centre
- Confirm that the centre currently assists with MahaSarathi. Ask: “Please help me register for a government Maha ID on the official MahaSarathi portal.”
- If you already have a Maha ID, use the official sign-in or recovery option.
- Open MahaSarathi, choose citizen registration and follow the available Aadhaar or ration-card route. Any operator/VLE access must be authorised.
- Review the consent purposes before approving e-KYC or retrieval of authorised records. Complete any guardian step required by the portal.
- Enter the OTP yourself on the official screen. Check the retrieved details and follow its instructions for any mismatch.
- Save the resulting Maha ID and acknowledgement securely. Collect an itemised receipt for any applicable assistance charge, then sign out.
You can also follow the citizen route yourself online. If the Aadhaar-linked mobile is unavailable, use official support or the authorised Aadhaar mobile-update process; do not assume a centre can bypass OTP verification.
Using Maha ID with MahaDBT
The MahaDBT 2.0 citizen manual directs new account registration through MahaSarathi. After registration, continue to the relevant scheme on the official portal. Each scheme retains its own eligibility, documents and application window; a Maha ID alone does not approve a benefit.
